“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
There are many who have answered this call to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them. Those of us who remain at home still have a responsibility for this Great Commission.
We are called to be senders. Senders provide support through prayer, finances, and communication. We are called to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest (Matthew 9:38). When we pray this with an open heart, we must yield to what the Lord is saying.
In addition to praying for the missionaries and their families, we need to ask the Lord of the harvest exactly how we are to support those who are sent. There is a blessing in supporting missionaries—we are able to minister to people all around the world, people whom we may never meet on this side of eternity.
Here are 10 ways to pray for Missionaries based on Scripture from Crossword:
Pray for their relationship with God, spiritual rest, maturity in the faith, and overflow of the Spirit. (John 15:5).
Pray for their physical well-being, health, safety, finances, and stamina in stressful conditions. (2 Thessalonians 3:1-2).
Pray for their emotional well-being, peace, joy, and hope that abounds. (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).
Pray for financial provision from God through faithful partners. (Philippians 4:18).
Pray for courage, obedience to the Spirit, and the advancement of the gospel in their work and ministry. (1 Corinthians 15:5).
Pray they will rely on the Lord for ministry success and depend on Him in prayer. (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12).
Pray for their team’s effectiveness and unity. (Philippians 2:1-2).
Pray for more workers to join them on the mission field. (Luke 10:2).
Pray for their local friendships, for open hearts, and transformed lives. (Colossians 4:3).
Pray for the country, government, and the local people. (Jeremiah 29:7).
As we pray for our Missionaries, not only will our prayers be answered, but we will be drawn closer to God. He will give us a better understanding of these servants who chose to “go” and be able to pray more effectively. And you never know; God might open a door for you to go.
